The Perfect Breed
by Judith Keyes

We searched through all the dog books
But simply could not find
A dog that was just right for us
A very special kind.

Then we saw a funny little dog.
Whatever breed can that be?
I wasn't sure; but I thought it was
A Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

How had we overlooked them?
They met all of our needs.
Such alert little dogs, so loyal and wise
They are the perfect breed.

So from Caradoc to Royal Mark
And kennels in between,
We tried to find a Corgi pup
But just missed them all it seemed.

At last there was a pup for us
After such a long, long wait.
We went to the kennel to meet her
And I'll always remember that date.

Well, that was a short three years ago
Although it seems like more.
Having Goldie has brought us some very dear friends,
Both the two legged kind and the four.
